Using Smartphone for configuration and time synchronization

TimeLume can be configured and gets its time from your smartphone.
This makes TimeLume an excellant companion for a traveling person, traveling between time zones.
Timelume will always be synchronized with the correct time and timezone following your smartphone.

There are some differences in the way TimeLume interact with IOS devices and Android devices.
This page is dedicated to TimeLume and IOS devices.

Timelume and IOS Devices

At the moment, we can not supply a dedicated TimeLume IOS App.
However, IOS devices can still be used for configuration and time synchronization.

Synchronizing time

Note: No App installation is needed for time synchronization !

Follow these steps for time synchronization:

1. Power up your TimeLume device.
   (there should be a red light coming out of the lens).
2. Navigate to the Bluetooth Settings on your Smartphone and make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
3. Within a few moments, your timeLume will be listed in the OTHER DEVICES list in the Bluetooth Settings.
   similar to TimeLume_XXXX (where XXXX can be a combination of digits and letters)
4. Tap on the TimeLume_XXXX and within a short while, a Bluetooth pairing request will pop up.
   Accept the pairing request.

Congratulations. You now have completed the time synchronization procedure.
From now on, everytime your need to synchronize the time, navigate to the Bluetooth Settings and
tap on the line showing your Timelume to connect.

After the initial time synchronization, TimeLume can keep a correct time for more than a week
without a connection to a Smartphon. However, in case of power failure or
Daylight saving time shift, a new synchronization will be needed.

Timelume Configuration

TimeLume default configuration consists of:
24H time format.
Temperature is displayed and is in the Celsius scale.
If this does not suits your needs, you will have to install a 3rd party free App
named: nRF Connect. and made by Nordic Semiconductor.
nRF Connect for Mobile can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store.

The steps to configure TimeLume are:

1. Calculating a numeric value that reflects the settings you need:
   Check the checkboxes below as needed
   12H time format (AM/PM)
   Fahrenheit temperature format
   No temp. Display
   Flip Display
   Numerical value: 00
2. If your TimeLume is still connected to your iPhone, recycle the Bluetooth button to disconnect.
   This is required because we have to connect by the nRF Connect app to enable configuration.
Strat the nRF Connect application and make sure it is in Scanner Mode and Scanning.
You should see your TimeLume showing up as in the red frame in the picture.
Click on the Connect button to connect to TimeLume,



In the next picture select the Cl.. tab (1) , and then scroll the display to the bottom until the UUID:FFF1 (2) is visible.
Click on the UP arrow (3) to show the Write Value dialog.



In the Write Value dialog, enter the value that was calculated in step 1 above.
Verify that Byte Arry is selected as well as Requestas write type
Click Write to send the new configuration to TimeLume.

The new configuration is now activatedand will be active also next time TimeLume is turned on.
The nRF Connect App can be deleted from your smartphone. It is not required for time synchronization.
